It's been my experience that black Velcro (this is a trademark, by the way) on the black stripe is much less noticible than white Velcro on your white stripes. With so many refs working so many different associations at so many levels, seeing Velcro strips without patches on a jersey has become almost commonplace. No one I know thinks it looks goofy anymore.
