I am on my way to the store to buy an American Flag patch for my shirt, can some one tell me where do they go on the shirt, I know it is on the arm but I need to know right or left and about where to put it. Thanks

A few years ago I had an American flag put on one of my official shirt's left shoulder. I carry two shirts in my bag...one with a flag and one without. If my partner has a flag I will wear the shirt with a flag. If my partner does not have a flag I will wear the one without a flag. (All in the sake of uniformity...I do have to admit I haven't followed this self imposed rule steadfastly, but most of the time I do...especially at Districts and above.)
Our association has left it up to each individual, weather we want a flag on our shirt or not, so it can create a problem if both officials want to look uniform.

For NCAA games it is optional to wear the flag on the left sleeve.
Some associations (mine is one) wear the flag on the back of the shirt 1 inch below the neck. As BktBallRef said, check with our local association/officials. If you don't have to carry/buy multiple shirts for multiple flag setups, it's a benefit. I carry 4 shirts at various times: * flag on back * flag on left sleeve * no flag * Grey with pinstripes It makes for a very full bag. |

OC,
You carry all those shirts? There is not just one standard to go by? Peace

I am thinking about trying carpet tape this year for my flags so I can carry fewer shirts and then just apply the flag when needed. |

Use velcro, line up a few strips of white/black velcro, on the white/black stripe of the shirt. Then fasten them on the patch accordingly. If your partner doesn't have a patch, then you take yours off, an no one will know there's velcro there. If your partner has a patch, then affix yours on your shirt and you're ready to go. What makes it really good is that you only have to buy 1 set of patches.

I do this for my football shirts, as i have to have a number and a patch on each shirt, and this can get pricey. The person who sews all of the stuff for me does a wonderful job.
If I wasn't wearing a patch on the front of my shirt, the only people who'd notice would be those in close proximity to me on the field. With my shirts there are only white strips of velcro, on 2 white stripes. |

It's been my experience that black Velcro (this is a trademark, by the way) on the black stripe is much less noticible than white Velcro on your white stripes. With so many refs working so many different associations at so many levels, seeing Velcro strips without patches on a jersey has become almost commonplace. No one I know thinks it looks goofy anymore.

I just bought Aleene's "Tack-It Over & Over"
Pressure sensitive glue for a temporary bond. Bought it for Little League patches on my Baseball shirts. Haven't tried it yet, but I do know I was unhappy with the black velcro, ...when there was no patch to be worn some nights. http://www.honigs.com/search_results.asp |
