Casebook 4.43.5 Situation B

"A1dives for a loose ball and slides after gaining control. A1 is in a position either on his/her back or stomach. What can A1 do without violating?"

This terminology tells me that it is NOT a travel to gain control of the ball while sliding on the floor. Yet I have seen refs call travel as soon as they see a kid slide in this scenario (happened again tonight). Did this change at some point so that more experienced (read: older) officials think it's a travel?

We've had this discussion before and there's not 100% agreement but if a player slides or rolls over due to momentum with the ball it is NOT a travel.

Agreed! However, if a player is holding the ball and falls to the ground, it is a travel.

Player intetionally rolls over, VIOLATION.
Physics causes the player to slide or roll over, LEGAL.

Original post said travel was called for simply sliding after control was established. I see this called erroneously U.P. here also. It's because some refs haven't picked up a rule book since 1972! Then you follow them to that gym for the next game and people think you make up your own rules because they have never seen stuff called properly before.

Smile Whoa now!

I disagree. Some officials havn't picked up a rule book since the beginning of the year. Don't blame a call like that on a senior official because officials of all ages are making strange calls due to lack of knowlege concerning the rules. My memory may be fading but I can remember that rule!!! Are there any more "old farts" out there? We don't have to take this kind of BS from these young un"s!!!!

Which one of those six legs is your pivot point, Grandpa?

No! You can't carry the ball in that basket on the front of your walker.

Look Gramps, I can't figure it out - too many legs, not enough dribbles. I'm thinking you just better shoot from where your at.

Underhand granny stuff??? Did your wife teach you to shoot like that?

My God! Three points! Well done.

Maybe so, but did you hear the disclaimers in those Cialis commercials during the Superbowl?!?! Man, oh, man!!

This was honest-to-goodness the warning given at the end of one of the Cialis commercials: "While erections lasting more than four hours are rare, they may occur and require immediate medical attention."

First of all: Four hours!?!? That doesn't call for medical treatment, that calls for a trip to Vegas, baby!!

Second of all: What kind of treatment are you going to get? I mean, what are you going to write on the line for "Symptoms", while you're waiting in the emergency room? You could end up getting more applause than anything else!

You can keep that stuff, DJ!

No call!

Four hours, the last thing I'm going to do is call a surgeon. That will be the best no call I have ever made!

Hey Chuck, can't you remember being in HS?

Four hours was a bad day.
