In playoff games, especially in late rounds, there is an alternate official at the table. This alternate official should definitely be able to assist the crew. Even if there is no alternate official, you could ask the timer. If he has definite knowledge that the ball was thrown from behind the 3-point line, the officials can use that and have him add an extra point to the score (if he added 2 points).

Since there was no touchdown three point signal given, it's treated as a correctable error and must be addressed and corrected within the correctable error time frame.

If there had been a touchdown three point signal given and it was mistakenly added as two points to the scorebook and scoreboard, that's a bookkeeping error that can be corrected until the officials leave the visual confines of the gym.

Just for clarity, not everyone does this. There is no alternate in my Illinois until the State Finals which includes the Semifinals, 3rd Place game, and Championship game. That might not be the case everywhere that has an alternate. Should have one, but they don't.

All the Regionals, Sectionals, and Super-Sectionals just have the 3 officials.

Peace

For the record the result of the pass/shot is a 3 if the ball was thrown behind the 3 point line. It does not have to be a try to be that way.

Now there was clarity this year on if the ball is deflected by the defender, if the ball goes in, it could be a 2 if you deemed the deflection was the only result of the ball going to the basket as opposed to it already being at or above the rim.

Peace
