NFHS Mechanics

I have seen these often.
-Official blows the whistle for a foul. Then takes a Slooooow walk to China and reports the foul while walking.
-Lead official calls a foul on the Offensive team. Takes 1, maybe 2 steps off the endline to report the foul. No switch. Goes back to the location and inbounds the ball as the new Trail official.
-As a Trail official, bounces the ball across the lane for a throw-in.
-As a Lead official, bounces the ball to the thrower for an endline throw-in.
-Ball goes Out of Bounds. Blows the whistle. Does Not use Signal #2, stop the Clock. Just goes straight to signal # 6 and points the direction.
Are these the new trends?

Don't you mean a slow "boat" to China?

Unless we have another Ice Age, and the Bering Strait becomes a land bridge again, it would certainly be very difficult to walk to China.

They were walking so slow, you could time their 100 m dash with a sun dial

Actually most of these modified mechanics were acceptable to the assigner in the Catholic middle school league I worked in over forty years ago.

Lots of doubleheaders, and quadheaders, with games scheduled on the hour (six minute stop time periods), and we were expected to keep things moving along quickly.

Yet, our Catholic middle school assigner expected us to be in full uniform (no shorts, sneakers, etc.), on time, always hustle, enforce all uniform and equipment rules, keep coaches in check, etc.

None of this would be acceptable, then or now, in our board assigned high school and middle school games.

If one happened to be observed by our observation committee doing any of these, one's assignment schedule would be greatly impacted, number, level, and quality of games.

Some of those are allowed in IL.

I would guess all are allowed in some state.

Some officials don't use all the required mechanics. In other news, the sun rose in the east today.

Trends? No. Do some people do these things? Yes. Would I worry about it? No.

Peace

The only one that really bothers me is bouncing to the inbounder under the basket. Can only lead to mishandling and the resulting drama. And there is no reason to cut that corner.

The rest? As long as partners are on the same page and it's not screwing up communication/rotations and our appearance of competence, I do not care one bit. I pregame the long switch, etc for this reason.

I'll address one thing that does bother me, reporting fouls.

I tell the officials in the high school association I'm affiliated with they either need to jog to a spot, stop completely and report or walk briskly with good posture and report while walking.

I hate the combo of a drag-your-feet jog that's morphs into a slow walk while reporting. Looks absolutely horrible.

Agreed. Some guys look better walking and reporting, others look better stopping, etc. It's all about credibility and presentation.

Bounce When You Can ...

I'm assuming that you mean on the front court endline, and not a bounce pass across the lane.

Zoochy originally asked about NFHS Mechanics, and while I can't speak to that, I can speak about IAABO mechanics.

The old IAABO mechanic was basically, "Bounce when you can, hand when you must".

The "hand when you must" was mandated for front court endline throwins.

IAABO changed that a few years ago, now IAABO tells us that we can "bounce" at any time, including on the front court endline.

I know, I got it wrong on the mechanics portion of my IAABO Refresher Exam a few years ago when they changed the mechanic unannounced.
