Dan Hurley did stupid things
And earned stupid prizes. Slapped the ad scroller/table thing to earn the first technical then "pumped up" the crowd to earn the second.
As a UConn alum/fan that was embarrassing enough. Now there are folks defending him which is nauseating. Only ever did HS ball, and that ended a couple years ago, and never college but I can recall a rule about inciting the crowd applying to both players and coaches. Am I just remembering that wrong? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jls9dxzQCPg Last edited by Rufus; Wed Feb 23, 2022 at 12:01pm. |

You are correct. The coaches and athletic directors included negatively inciting the crowd as grounds for a Class A technical foul.
e.Objecting to an official’s decision by rising from the bench or using gestures. f. Inciting undesirable crowd reactions. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Reminds me of a story about Greg Maddux. As great a pitcher as he was a co-worker thought it would be great to get dugout tickets for he and his kids during a game in which Maddux was pitching. Big mistake as Maddux definitely worked "blue" both on the field, coming into/out of the dugout, and while in there as well. |

Not exactly the same. He was ejected already. Just let him leave and move on. No reason to add to the issue.

True, but it might add to the fine that he’ll probably receive from the conference. By the way, didn’t Raymond say something recently about college coaches being relatively mature, restrained, and more intelligent as compared to HS coaches? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Again, another example of somebody making it all about themselves and taking away from the players and the game. It's funny how fans and coaches are the ones who do this but they're always hurling that accusation at officials simply for blowing our whistles and making a call. Fire Up ...
We see this here on the high school level, and even on the middle school level (I was a middle school coach for 25 years).
Sometimes a coach just wants to show his players, parents, and fans that he's paying attention, knows the rules, cares about the game, and supports his players when it's obvious that officials just screwed up in a manner that negatively effected his players (bad foul call, or bad foul no call, etc.), and/or team (not necessarily cheating, I have not known officials to cheat, exception Tim Donaghy). And sometimes a coach just wants to "fire up" his players, and/or fans (who, in turn, fire up the players). This was lot more common when NFHS technical foul penalties were less severe, only one free throw (did I dream that), and when there was no coaching box (seatbelt all the time, with some exceptions by rule) to be taken away.
