Any of You?

Anyone out there whose state has high school officials going "opposite table" after reporting?

True in 100% IAABO mechanics Connecticut for the occasional three person game.

In two person games we switch and the reporting official can end up anywhere.

But Freddy wants NFHS mechanics, and I can't help him with that.

If nobody has answered "yes" by now, I would think that means everyone who has read this thread goes tableside for 3-man in HS.

"Negative replies not required"...military thing that reduces unnecessary email traffic.

Any IAABO State (except MD), Ohio, and Louisiana switch opposite the table.

Chiming in from Mass. here, an (almost) all-IAABO state.

We go opposite in three-whistle and opposite for free throws in two-whistle.

I found a couple of books.

Official's Manual, 1999-2002
Three Officials, Foul Switching Techniques
a. The official who calls the foul goes opposite the table
b. The opposite side official replaces calling official.
c. The third official remains in the same position occupied at the time the foul was called.

Same verbiage in 1997-1999 book.

If you (or anyone else) wants these books, let me know:
1997-1999 Official's Manual
1998-2000 Handbook
1998-1999 Simplified and Illustrated
1999-2001 Official's Handbook

In Oklahoma we had been going opposite table in 2 person games, however, starting this year we will be going to the table, to be consistent with 3 person

Always Thank Bob

My thanks to Bob for sending me two NFHS Officials Manuals from just before and just after the turn of the century.
I had to pay his moving expenses to get him to mail them to me, but I guess it was worth it.
Thanx Bob!

You make it sound so ancient.

Jimmie, is your group an IAABO board? If so, then your group might be following standard IAABO mechanics. Do non-IAABO groups in Arizona also go opposite in 3-person? I'd really love to know.

As far as I know we aren't IAABO. A decision was made at the state level for all 3-person mechanics calling official goes away from table. That is all that is taught at any AIA camps. AZ was mostly 2-person. Last year was first full season where there were options for 3-persons and all state tourney games were 3-person.

AZ is not an IAABO state. A prominent leader of that state explained to me that AZ is an NFHS state that broke from the code to go "opposite table".

Interesting. I asked, because I knew that there were at least 2 IAABO boards in AZ. Maybe the practice of the IAABO boards somehow informed the rest of the state.

Perhaps Gessner wants officials to go opposite the table to reduce confrontations. This is the reasoning why opposite the table became the norm in men's college. It could also be that Brian Gessner used to work men's college, and is importing what he is familiar with to the AIA.
