I had a veteran referee say that to me when the rule came out. As the younger guy I held my tongue, even though I knew he was wrong.

These dotted semicircle lines in the lane are vestiges from when we had three jump ball circles. That's right, we had three different jump ball circles and a lot more than just one jump ball in a game. We had literally a dozen, maybe a few more, jump balls in girls freshman games back then. Thank God for the invention of the alternating possession arrow.
