I don't officiate any other sports, but don't you defend your own goal in Football? Soccer? Hockey? Lacrosse? Rugby?

Own goal + opponents goal = semantics that don't really affect the rules.

Remember that in basketball, the original goal was a peach basket. Generally, filling up your own basket with food is a good thing.
