Bonehead play or no?

Great rulebook play here. If this happened in an NFHS game, what do you have?
NFHS rules, what do you have here? How about other rulesets?

Jermaine Marshall Costs Team Playoff Game With Buzzer-Beating Boner

The video has been taken down. Ball thrown at opponents basket isn't a try. Ball becomes dead at horn. Rule says goal happens when live ball enters basket from above and remains in or passes through. If the ball wasn't through net when horn blew it shouldn't have counted. Again, I didn't see the play. If it was close I'd count it. Shooting at wrong basket is badddd.

Ironically, Jermaine Marshall was, per FIBA Rules, shooting at his team's basket. Under FIBA Rules, a team defends its basket and attempts to score in its opponent's basket.

Same for NCAA. Don't know about FIBA. NBA, I think, is a violation to shoot at the wrong basket.

Yaaa because NFHS rules having you try and score on your own basket isn't the most ridiculous thing ever..

I don't officiate any other sports, but don't you defend your own goal in Football? Soccer? Hockey? Lacrosse? Rugby?

Is NFHS basketball the only sport in which you try to score in your own goal?

Own goal + opponents goal = semantics that don't really affect the rules.

Remember that in basketball, the original goal was a peach basket. Generally, filling up your own basket with food is a good thing. ;)
