NFHS 5-1-2e
It is a delayed dead ball when anyone who is required to wear a batting helmet deliberately removes his helmet, while the ball is in live-ball territory and the ball is live. Penalty (from chart) : Team warning. Subsequent players on that team who violate rule are ejected.

The rationale for the delay is to permit the defense to play on other runners and perhaps to record additional outs, which stand.
