batter swings and is hit in chest.

Last night. Junior high level game. FED rules. I am HP. 2 outs. 2 strikes on batter. Pitcher throws a curveball that didn't curve. Batter swings aggressively at the ball (waaay out in front of pitch) and pitch hits him directly in the center of the chest. I signal dead ball and say "strike 3, batters out!" No argument from batter, but coach comes out and does not argue the strikeout call, but wonders why his BR was not able to attempt to advance to 1st because the catcher didn't catch a 3rd strike. I explain that when a ball contacts the batter for any reason, it immediately becomes dead. He looks at me like I'm speaking chinese.

When that happens, I'll sometimes explain it again in Chinese, to see if it makes more sense to him.

You just watch, and one of these nights,
those that talk backwards will demand their rights.
They'll rise up angry and demand a solution,
in the form of an amendment to the Constitution
that guarantees Freedom of Reverse Elocution.
And every TV show that airs,
will have to be captioned for the forward-impaired.
TALK BACKWARDS!

Yeah, it looks like we're headed in that direction all right. God help us all! Nice poem.

A curveball that didn't curve, so what made it a curveball?

I thought that was the Tea Party slogan? "Take Our Country Back". How far back to they want to go, the Civil War? I prefer my country go forward.

Hanging curves don't usually make it to the batter's chest or the catcher - at least as the batters get older. Kid need more BP.

Me, too! I do that already by "Leaning Forward" with MSNBC.
