Was that before, after, or both?
If both, I simply would like to compliment you on your discretion. JM

Were there a bald headed guy in the 3rd row? Do you walk to work of carry your lunch? Don't laugh --- these are very important questions for us to be able to determine the answer a question like this!

However if he just plan dropped it then picked it up with his bare hand and touched the base with his gloved hand not his foot, then I'm sorry I dont have an out. Isnt that the same as tagging a runner with your gloved hand while the ball is in your bare hand? |

Read 2.00 Tag and note the different wording between tagging a base, and tagging a person. |

The last guy who said to me, "I'm an umpire," did so in an attempt to lend weight to his claim that I should have called a runner out at home for not sliding.
I figured there was no call. The runner had made no contact with the catcher, and the ball was in fact lying several feet from the plate when the runner scored. However, this umpire told me, "A runner is required to slide on a close play. It's right in the book in black and white!" Other details of the play: (1) day game, (2) yes, bald-headed guy in the third row, and (3) I didn't eat lunch that day.

That is what is wrong with this forum. You guys, are missing the important points here.
Lets break this down: 1. Ball hit to the first baseman. 2. He drops the ball. 3. He picks it up with his bare hand 4. He touches first base with the glove while the ball is secure in his other hand still. 5. The runner steps on first with his brand new Nikey cleats. Now, is he safe or out? Gee wiz, what is so hard to understand. Give the guy a strate answer! |
