Association Fees

What is customary for annual fees paid to your umpire association? Our association has not charged fees since I joined in 2001. This year there are what seems to be reasonable fees ($50). I was just wondering how much other associations charge.

LI, NY: $90 annual dues, no assigning fees. $115 for a varsity game ($96 JV). 2-man. 1.5 fee if you work alone (rare).

My organization in MO charges $30 for baseball, which includes spring and summer. We also pay 5% of our pay on games that are charged through the association (some summer is cash-at-plate; we don't pay the 5% then).

I need to move back home. Here in Houston dues are $75 and assigning fee of $3/game.

Game Fees are $50+mileage (.50/mile) for varsity or $45+mileage for jv. JV games are usually doubleheaders.

Association Fees

State dues, KY, $45.00 for first sport, +$25.00 for each additional sport. Local association fees, $45.00 per sport. Different assignors?
Some associations feel compelled to pay assignors additional $$$$, even though they receive their assigning pay through the state so to speak.

IHSA (IL) charges $45 for first sport, $15 each add'l.
Chicagoland association fees range from $50 to $25.

Assignors contract for their fees with the conferences serviced. Checks come from the schools (with few exceptions.)

Varsity baseball: $60 / 105 DH.
Fr, So, JV: (One man) $57 / 101.

The underclass fees have risen more than varsity rates in recent years, which is alright by me. An incentive for the newbies to stick around.

We pay the state $35 (which includes NFHS registration), and $50 to the local association.

Pay is $65 for the plate, $60 for the bases, regardless of varsity or JV.

Think of it as $45 per game + $15 travel fee.

Ugh. Do people think of the $60 game fee as $45 + $15?

Here we get exactly double of the single game fee for a DH.

I have a personal rule that I won't work any youth ball around here where they pay the plate umpire more than the base umpire.

When someone calls and tells me they need me to work the plate, I'll specifically ask what the base umpire is paid and I've turned down games because of this.

I won't disagree with you in principle, because any ump worth his salt knows neither is more important than the other. However, as they say, that's just the way it is and always has been in these parts. Doesn't make it right, it just makes it so. The justification is "the plate ump has to wear all that gear."

So, I either A) accept the policy, 2) don't umpire HS ball here, or D) move somewhere else. I chose A, since my job requires me to live here and doesn't allow me the freedom to exclusively do college ball (all varsity games here are night games which works great for me).

Now, for any other ball I do, mainly Senior League and American Legion, the pay is the same for either ump.
