At the time of the game when the question arose, Mike, the starter, was on the field playing defense. The inning ended and Mike came in to bat. He was not due up until 5th that inning. Another player reached base and we wanted Mike, who had just been in the line up on defense to be a special pinch runner for that player. Could we have put Mike in to run, or do we have to wait for his time at bat to swap him and his sub James out of the line up. Like I stated, all mandatory play time had already been met..It was my understanding that you could freely sub these players back and forth?

Yeah, we are really a T-ball board at heart.

Ok Lets get down to bottom line facts.

Who had the better looking mom.

He bats, runs or plays the most.

See how simple that was.

LL Tournament

Special Pinch Runner: Must use someone NOT in the current lineup. Only once per game.

Here's a follow on question, that WP hasn't answered yet:

A SPR is put in, a couple of outs are recorded, and the manager would like this SPR to sub in and bat. Can the original runner be put back on base, so the SPR can come into the lineup and bat?

The SPR, assuming he was never placed in the lineup, must fulfill MPR sometime before games end. Pinch running does not satisfy MPR.

So the answer to your question is a qualified yes.

Almost, but not quite...

SPR Calvinball...
Each player can be SPR'd "for" only once per game.
A SPR can only be done once per inning.
The player serving as SPR must not be in the current batting order - no restriction on how many times a player can serve as a SPR.

Not specifically SPR, but related...
While on offense, subs can only be made when the batting position is at the plate or on base. "Advance/projected/future" substitutions are not allowed.

Thank you for elaborating. I was being lazy.
