T Ball

During a T Ball game the defense throws a ball to third. Ball gets by 3rd baseman and hits the 3rd base coach. What is the ruling. Is this a dead ball or a live ball?

Tball? Why care about it? Do they have umpires or kids picked to fill a spot? Does Tball even have baseball rules? Mainly, just the basics of out, safe, and when to stop the runners from running. No outs are awarded for unusual plays b/c all of the plays will be unusual somehow.

I mean we know the answer but why should it matter at this level? Leave it alone until the players are even old enough to care about it.

If not intentional, live ball. If intentional, dead ball and tell him not to do it again. Higher levels, intentional will be dead ball and someone is out. But, not in Tball.

I think the question was just regarding whether a thrown ball that makes contact with a coach in the field of play is dead or live.

If a thrown ball hits a base coach, the ball remains live.

Let people learn the rules without the run around man. This is here to provide good discussion and a baseball education.

It's a live ball unless the coach purposely deflected the ball to put the defense at a disadvantage.

But, you don't learn the rules in Tball. Certain rules do/should not apply to Tball. So, there is no way to learn them.

Such as this case. If the base coach does it intentional such as picks it up to give it to the 3B man, are you going to call out the runner? I wouldn't. It would be a "Don't do that" issue at this level.

If you want a baseball education, leave out the Tball part. B/c many baseball rules do/should not relate to Tball. At the Tball level, KISS. These kids are just learning to hit and catch. Now, throw in the more complicated rules and they will have no fun b/c of some OOO.

Also, it has been my experience that parents are the worst at not knowing the rules and bothering officials(kids) after the game instead of just letting it go. Now, make a call they completely don't understand and the official is making it harder on himself. Tball is a completely different application of rules.

Hey if you read his answer you would know it was more complete than yours.

If you think they are going to sugar-coat it when you get to Big Ball (like Dad pitch League) your wrong. We are just toughening you up here , so your ready. Think of it as being eduacated in umpiring.

The coach is now obligated to pay for the runner's college education. After all, his actions clearly cost the runner the scholarship he would have earned on the spot from one of the dozen college coaches in the stands.

When my son was in Tball a few years back, we didn't keep score, we didn't count outs, and each inning consisted of batting through the roster. At this level, why is anybody worrying about what to rule if the ball hits the coach?

In T-Ball, it doesn't matter! The defense is either chasing the ball or picking dandelions. The batter-runner is probably running to the outfield while the adults are trying to maintain some order. Meanwhile, the illegitamate son of Casey Stengel is giving signs from 3rd base and the parents are all hoping that their kid will get a baseball scholarship to their favorite university.

So when the ball goes out of play in T-ball, it doesn't really matter because there shouldn't be an umpire to make a ruling!

I think the only relevant question for this age group should be what flavor juice box they get at the end of the game

Or...

Is it a dead ball when the ball falls into the hole that the second baseman and left fielder are digging at deep shortstop?

Wow...

The only things I'm worried about on the field in my 4-year-old son's T-ball game is 1) keeping him off the ground during their time in the field; 2) that he makes contact with the ball and runs to the right base during his time at bat; and 3) where is the hot mommy that works at Hooters?
