Tonight I had girls' varsity, and then stayed to watch the boys' varsity afterward. The visitors entire bench shouted, "ball,ball,ball,ball..." and so forth the whole time their team had the ball, every time, all game. This is one of the top 2A teams in Oregon, and they had a very strong challenger in the home team, so it was a huge game. And there they were, acting like 8th grade girls. Very interesting.

I've seen many boys teams do this at many levels of play. They just usually yell "tight, tight, tight" instead of "ball, ball, ball."

Maybe we just choose to notice it more in girl's games.

Many boys' teams? From the bench? From the whole bench? If that's true, I'm glad I don't work in that neck of the woods. That's pathetic.

Not a chance. Girls do this almost exclusively. And I've never seen a whole bench do it. That would be like a root canal without the pain killers.

You're right Chuck, that would be pathetic. I didn't notice that it was the whole bench doing it. I generally see the defender on ball doing it ("tight, tight") when they force the offensive player into picking up the ball. Fortunately I haven't heard the "ball, ball, ball" thing around here from boys OR girls teams.
