Minor 2009 MLB Uniform Change

Watching a local spring training game this afternoon on TV, I noticed that the numbers on the "polo" blue alternate uniform tops now have black numbers.

Well, as long as you know it.

That coach in the red blasted 414 homers in the big leagues, and was the first man to blast 40 or more in a season in both leagues.

That is Darrell Evans.

Inky, though, (since his name came up) is credited with the #1 all-time baseball quote IMHO. When the players were on strike, many fans commented on their perceived greed on the part of the players.

Pete responded (paraphrasing): "The fans act like we're all a bunch of millionaires, when in reality a lot of us are making only five or six hundred thousand."

Hard to tell in ML umpires have made any change in their uniforms from this picture.

In the real MLB #65 is Ted Barrett...that's not Ted Barrett. Those aren't ML umpires.

No kidding. I was using the picture to show the new color of the numbering on the MLB uniforms.

The point is, why do you think that those are ML uniforms?

They both could have been.

Exactly. So why would one come to the conclusion that the major league umpire uniform had changed based on what non-ML umpires are wearing?

Wow! I'm sorry I missed that!

Cory Snyder was a stud. And he had a cannon! He was a huge part of the 1984 USA Olympic baseball team. I was at every game they played. Other big-leaguers from that team: Bill Swift, Bobby Witt, Barry Larkin, Odibe McDowell, Shane Mack, Chris Gwynn, Flavio Alfaro, Gary Green, B.J. Surhoff, Will Clark, and a guy named Mark McGwire. Snyder shared right with Shane Mack, and he shared third base with McGwire. Mac's Olympic coach was Rod Dedeaux, who was also his college coach, and he had him play third with Snyder and first with Will Clark.

When Japan beat them 3-1, I hurled. Watching the wrong flag go up the flagpole and watching the wrong team jumping up and down on the medal platform made me as sick as any sight in baseball up until that point.

It is now expected to see a team of U.S. professionals get beat by virtually any international professional squad, because baseball's a team sport and U.S. All-Star teams don't play like a team. But back then, they were all in college, and they looked unbeatable at every workout and in every game leading up to the final. It was unreal.
