Minor 2009 MLB Uniform Change
Watching a local spring training game this afternoon on TV, I noticed that the numbers on the "polo" blue alternate uniform tops now have black numbers.
Found this image on Flickr of Golden Baseball League Umpires: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1273/...45ab6570_b.jpg Yes - I know this is slightly a jock sniffing post. |

That coach in the red blasted 414 homers in the big leagues, and was the first man to blast 40 or more in a season in both leagues. |
Pete I?

Looks like Darrell Evans to me...

That is Darrell Evans.
Inky, though, (since his name came up) is credited with the #1 all-time baseball quote IMHO. When the players were on strike, many fans commented on their perceived greed on the part of the players. Pete responded (paraphrasing): "The fans act like we're all a bunch of millionaires, when in reality a lot of us are making only five or six hundred thousand." |
That is a great quote.

I saw Don Sutton's 300th win, which was a complete game near-masterpiece against the Rangers in '86. The only blemish was this mistake fastball that he threw to Inky, one of the strongest men in baseball, and he put it into the great beyond in dead center. We were right behind the plate, and as soon as Sutton let go of the ball, you could hear Bob Boone yell, "$h!t" before Inky even hit it. Incaviglia was crazy strong.

Inky hit one so hard into the upper deck in left field I couldn't believe how fast the ball got there. Wow, could he hit em. |
SD Steve will appreciate this one:
In the final year of Tiger Stadium, they let fans come on the field post-game on Sundays. My brothers and I had upper deck seats about 250' down the RF line. Tony Clark hit one past our faces off the facing of the third deck. I said, "Whoa!" as the ball went by. After the game, we stood at home plate and I got a lot better look at how far away the facing of third deck is from home plate. My adjusted reaction was something like "HOLY &*&^%$#%^&#@#$%^!!" That moment gave me a new appreciation for the power some of those guys have. Even better was seeing the distances of the light tower that Reggie Jackson hit in the '71 All-Star Game, and the left field roof that Frank Howard nearly cleared when the Washington Senators pounded the Tigers 15-3 in the first major league game I attended. |

Hard to tell in ML umpires have made any change in their uniforms from this picture. In the real MLB #65 is Ted Barrett...that's not Ted Barrett. Those aren't ML umpires. |

The point is, why do you think that those are ML uniforms? |
