Beltran Hit by Foul Ball???

McClelland strikes again. Even the Mets announcers were talking about how huge a break the call was for the Mets. Watching the replays available, it appeared F5 was standing mostly in fair ground with the ball hitting his right butt cheek while standing on third. No way it was a foul ball when striking him - should've been an out.

Didn't hurt the Phillies ultimately -- the Mets blew a 7-0 lead and lost 8-7 in 13 innings.

not going to comment on the play since i didn't see it. but wth a runner on third base and less then 2 outs the 1st and 3rd base umpires take the entire line so that the plate umpire can get in a position for a play at the plate.

It was interesting that the Mets announcers pointed out that Beltran was not back to the bag when he was hit. If he's hit while on the bag in fair territory, he's still out!

The Met announcers I listened to seemed to know the rule well as well as why the PU is expected to make that call (runner between umpire and ball).

Rich do not remind me. I stayed up to watch the entire game ( I know you are a Phillies fan - I am a Met fan) The Mets have been playing this way all season long . The bullpen is horrible but the bats "go asleep" after the third / 4th innings.

Another thing I noticed is the position of U2 when David Wright hit a 2 out shot down the right field line and tried to stretch it into a double. U2 was almost in the way. He actually did get tangled up a bit with Wright.

if the Mets do not win tonight with Santana , the Phillies will once again be in the Mets heads down the stretch. Their only salvation is that the Phillies have to to Wrigley for 4 games and that will not be easy.
