Balk on this??

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=snfh2RZ9wJ8

Looks ok. Usually when a RH tries this, the offense cries balk. I think its just a case of a move not seen as much as when a leftie does it. So, the offense thinks it must be a balk.

I have a balk for simulating a delivery and not throwing a pitch. Also, it looks like his free foot went behind the back edge of the rubber. I think I'd balk him for that too. Double balk - 2 bases.

Have to be there to call that one. There are too many questions to make a definitive call.

Irregardless, I feel nauseous and need to lay down for awhile. I have only one criteria in grammer, and it has an asterik next to it!

This is just between you and I.

Huh? If you put a mirror on this, it would simply be a good LH move to first base. The foot didn't come back behind the rubber (well, all I'm saying is that if we have a 2 man crew this isn't going to be called even if it might have been behind) and the step looks to be more to third than the plate, so it's legal.

I am going to agree with you here. If his foot didn't come back behind hit knee....I would let it go. But the video just isn't proof enough for me to say much. HTBT

We must be seeing something different, Rich. It sure looks to me like he rotated his free foot toward home first. I don't care where he landed the step.

maybe it's the quality of the video, or maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not seeing a balk (I'm not saying you guys are wrong, I'm just saying I'm not seeing it). the 45 step looks... ok. can't tell from the angle about kicking the foot behind the rubber. i don't see any movements toward home.

once again, the film is a little blurry so i may be missing something

That's what I see also. Basically he kicks his leg which makes it look unusual, but his knee doesn't move toward home at all.

With two man never going to call it, and even if I'm U3, it looks like he stepped right toward third.

From looking at part 2, the umpires must have not done a very good job explaining it to the coach, but that's a game management thread.

Thanks
David
