Injury with 9 players?

You are, of course, free to refer to said runner as you like.

FYI, the case play I referenced in my earlier thread contains (my emphasis):

So, in the unlikely event this were to occur in a game I was officiating, I think I would use the term "courtesy runner".

Thanks for this, and I stand corrected. I now opine that this is really DUMB of the FED writers to use a term that has such specific meaning and rule attached to it and throw it around like a generic.

Scene 1 Act 4
prequel numb brain.

Vis Coach. "Hey Mike, I only have 9 players and my runner at second just stubbed his toe and has to come out, what can I do?

Me: NO prob, VC, just let the prev batter not on base go in as a COURTESY RUNNER for Stubby. YOu can play with 8 now, and stubbys spot is an autoout.

VC: Hokay Dokay.. (meanwhile Home Coach has listened intently.. he calmly scratches his Dr House face...)

Me: Play!

HC: TIME!! Mike, the guy at second is not a legal courtesy runner and needs to be ejected!

Me: HELP ME MR WIZARD!!!

This FED rule is why I so much prefer NCAA and OBR. Don't have 9 players? Forfeit. Seeya!

High school is more about providing playing time when possible and reasonable. This rule, like the subsitution rule, is aimed at that.
