Wood Bat Baseball

After watching this season of HS wood bat fall ball, I'd like to see HS ball go to wood bats all the time. The focus of the game is on fundamentals, pitchers go after hitters and all the games I've done have been close.

I've been saying this for years! Now how long will it take before we get the Metal Bat Forever moro... uhh... people here to advocate:
  • How dangerous it is for the defense when a wood bat breaks.
  • How wood bats are too expensive. ($50 average compared to $200 Average)
  • Players would cheat using cork and pine tar.
  • Metal bats make the game fair by making it easier to get a hit.
I haven't seen a good bat "war" in a long time on this site!

My son works in the winter with a wood bat on hitting fundamentals. When spring comes and he goes to the metal it seems like those bloops become shots. Of course it could have something to do with actually working on baseball in the winter. The big answer is the bat companies will go nuts. How can they sell a $400+ wood bat to a 12 year old?

The same way they sell $350+ video games boxes to them.

Don't forget the $50 game disks to play on them.

Considering what I see in the dugout and not on the store shelf, $200 is the starting price for the metal bats, not the average.

Brett Brothers Bat Company supplies local teams with wood bats for about $30 a pop. Elite team coaches tell me that on average each kid will go through three to four wood bats a season and that they buy a new metal bat each year. Expense doesn't seem an issue.

That is because it is not.

Two school district associations have returned to the wood (Msr. Martin and Buffalo City schools) whereas ECIC, which represents the suburbs, still uses the pipes.

BTW, isn't the NCAA due to return to the wood as well?

I'll look into this further but I heard from other umpires in my area that when the NCAA's contract with Easton is up, they're going to go back to the lumber.

Choir, two games 5-3 and 7-5. Both games 2 hours long. Only throwing errors made the scores that high!
