So, JM, you wouldn't kill the play at the time, just let things play out and then rule? Actually had this happen in a 12U game this summer; tight game, slow roller past pitcher toward short, bases loaded, pitch throws his glove and hits ball (said he wanted to stop it so he could throw the kid out at home). I killed it right then - "Dead Ball" award 3 bases and such. No one questioned but my partner thought it was still a live ball. Looked thru pro and Federation rules (the application at the complex differs depending on what age you are doing, but pro rules apply to the younger kids) and it seemed to be a bit unclear as to whether it is immediately dead or not.

Federation says ball remains live, but can't seem to find that in pro. Do you know where it says how to play it?

Cool

Fritz,

Here you go:

Each runner including the batter-runner may, without liability to be put out, advance --

(b) Three bases, if a fielder deliberately touches a fair ball with his cap, mask or any part of his uniform detached from its proper place on his person. The ball is in play and the batter may advance to home base at his peril;
