Throwing a glove at batted ball
Hello,
I saw a strange play this week at a High School Fall Baseball game. The batter hits a hard short to the leftside of the shortstop, he sees immediately he can not get too it and throws his glove at the ball. I know we have nothing here since his glove did not hit the ball. Lets just say his glove did hit the ball what is the proper ruling on this under National Federation Rules. Thank You |
Tim,
That would be a 3-base award to all/any runners from the time of infraction. Tha ball remains in play at the time of the infraction. JM |

I actually did this my first year in little league. I was playing center field and a ball was going out, so I just tossed my glove and it hit the ball, keeping it in play. I picked it up and threw it to second base where a stunned hitter was standing -- just off the base. He was tagged out, but as I recall, they ended up giving him a home run.
I did it again, years ago, while practicing on our softball team. Two in a million shot, I guess. |

Federation says ball remains live, but can't seem to find that in pro. Do you know where it says how to play it? |
