Would like the AFA, ASA, and NCAA ruling - (site Rule please), on the following:
B1 hits a pitched ball that F4 throws her glove at and deflects it to F9 who throws out B1 at 3rd. Out? Safe? Difference of opinion on this by local association.

Speaking ASA, the batter (now runner) is awarded 3rd, unless the umpire judged the ball would have cleared the fence, in which case the runner is awarded home. 8-5-F.
Speaking AFA, same ruling. 8-11d.

My reason for the question was, that at the recent qualifying tournament this weekend, an AFA CASEBOOK packet appeared. The following was one of the entries. B1 hits a pitched ball that: (1) F4 throws her glove at and deflects it to B9 who throws out B1 at 3rd. (2) F8 catches with her hat. Ruling: In (1) B1 is out. I disagreed. Strongly. Player throws a glove and hits the ball in my game, I am definately not going to penalize the B/R. However, if this had been a thrown ball, then I am pretty sure B1 would have been out had she attempted to go to 3rd. Ruling: In (2) B1 is protected to 3rd. I agreed. Told I was wrong, but none of us had a book handy. I really think that the writer got 8-11d and 11-8b.1) confused. Thanks

NCAA 12-2-C Third Base. The batter is awarded third base with no liability to be put out
1.when a fielder intentionally contacts or catches a fair batted ball with cap, helmet, mask, chest protector, GLOVE/MITT or any other part of her uniform that is detached from its proper place on her person. 2. When an illegal catch or touch is made on a batted ball that in the opinion of the umpire might become fair
