Some of us are doing other sports in January. I have only done the number of games because I am starting later than many at this time of year. Usually I will not work my first game until April.

Wow, what a concept! People that do other sports. Please tell me it's not true! What makes you think that I don't do other sports as well? Let's see, I guess we don't play football and basketball here. I was just stating that the "baseball season" starts earlier here.

What makes you think the only reason people are working few games is a result of the weather? You are the one that made the "I have been working since January" comment. And you suggested this would change because if they lived in South Florida. I am sure there is more to working baseball than just the weather? I know it is that way for me. I know I am not the only one where I live.

Peace

Where did you get the "I have been working since January," line from. I said that we have been going here since then. I have had other things going so don't add word to my posts that are not there.

Let me put it to you this way. In my state you cannot even umpire a HS baseball game until March 12. Then because of the fact that baseball is not a revenue sport and often there are no tarps covering fields (like many college baseball teams), you might not work many games at all until the following week or two after. And if your team is a good basketball school, you might not even have practiced by that time as an entire team (or at all if you are a small school). It is not all about the weather from many of us. And if you are working other sports at that time, you might not want to go right into another sport without a significant break. I know that is the case for a lot of officials in my area and I am sure in other parts of the country.

Peace

My first game is a week away but the 2 inches of snow we just got may be pushing that back a little. Good thing I worked a scrimmage a couple of weeks ago during a warm front.

I'm on a roll...a bad roll.

First ten days of the high school season here and I have had all five of my games cancelled! Even with record highs and warmer than usual days, the luck of the draw has been that the days I have been scheduled just happened to be the the rainy days in between the record setters.

Yesterday's game was snowed out. The day before it was 80 degrees!

Even in the east (NY) there is plenty of baseball

HS season starts the last week in March through the end of May.

Legion starts June 2nd through the end of July, first wek in August

My first travel game was last week.

We also have the mens leagues that start early as well.

Collegiate wood bat league

Many many tournaments along the way.

In Summary, (excluding bad weather) we are busy from the last week in March right through the end of October with the conclusion of fall ball.

I have worked 20 games so far, and had a DH rained out.

The coldest temperatures in April in Chicagoland in over 60 years--so much for that "Global Warming" bullschit--have settled in a few days ago, and they're not expected to let up anytime soon. In fact, this cold pattern is expected to last through at least the middle of the month!

We're not talking about weather that's just chilly. This is downright cold! Highs in the mid-30s, winds whipping out of the north, and wind chills in the teens or single digits. Wednesday of this week and tomorrow snow showers have been present, and next week, there's a big storm heading into the Midwest, with measurable snow expected in many areas.

College games all over the place are getting banged because of the dangerous cold. When D-1 bangs games, you know it's cold!

And this is April???
