I might be interested in someones background from a sociological perspective, but that has no bearing on anything related to umpiring. I sure hope we don't alter our expectations for behavior based on the 'backgrounds' of the participants in the game. I sure don't.

I couldn't get your link to show, but last year I had read something to the effect that a cloud was lifted from the clubhouse when the Tigers released Dimitri and they kept Sean Casey, who was upbeat, nice to be around, a hitter and a fielder, ... but slower than a 7-year-itch.

My limited coaching experience (12 years) makes me believe that the best teams I had were the ones where all the players worked hard, respected and liked each other, and played as a team, with team goals in mind.

And one bad apple could spoil a whole bunch...
