Brewers - Batter's Interference?
I only saw the replay on Sports Center so might have missed something. Anyone have further info?
In the Brewer's game on Friday, Clark was batting. He swung at a pitcher. PU called time, gave a signal similar to foul tip and then stepped up to Clark, giving an out signal and I read his lips to say "batter's interference." ("Batter's interference" is also what the announcers were saying, but they don't seem to be right too often.) I replayed the Sports Center piece and could not see a foul tip occur, the bat hit the glove or the back swing hit the catcher. The batter did not seem to step out of the box and the catcher wasn't making a play on anyone. What am I missing?

saw the same play. i think the ump called him out for hitting the ball while one of his feet was out of the batters box. don't think that he actually fouled the ball, but that was what the ump was trying to communicate.

If batter struck the catcher's glove on the swing it would be catcher's interference and batter is awarded 1B.
If batter struck a pitch while one foot on the ground outside the box, batter is out. If batter struck the catcher's glove on the backswing, causing the catcher to drop a strike three pitch it would be batter out on the interference. I did not see the play so I am just speculating on information provided. |

I TiVo'd it and reviewed it several times. I could not see either contact with the ball, nor feet out of the box, so I was confused. I was going to suggest a pine tar problem, but they ignore that since George Brett.
