Vacationing MLB Umpires
There has been a lot of talk about how MiLB umpires are coving for Vacationing MLB umpires, in the Strike posts.
These MLB umpires work what, 6 or 7 months out of the year, and they can't manage to schedule their vacations during the off season ! Baring special family functions, I find that hilarious. If I ran MLB, they'd have to have a dang good reason to ask for a vacation. Remember, I am talking about Vacation time here. Not time off for Injury, Family Emergency, or other Health related issues. MLB Vacation = Time away from work/umpiring to relax. Our Vacation = Time away from work to umpire/relax. I guess it's all a matter of "Point of View".

So, what you're saying is you would preferr that MLB begrudge these men the opportunity to go and be with their families for at least one week during the season. Remember, Nick, these guys don't see a hometown bed like the players do. They're traveling constantly all season long with no such thing as a home stand.

Does it really matter to you that they get vacation during the season? I would bet that their vacation schedule is built into their contract and from their work schedule well deserved IMHO. And honestly, aren't you glad that you don't work for someone like you? Do you have to give a "dang good reason to ask for a vacation" at your job? My employee's simply submit a request for vacation, no other questions asked. |

vacation time
you work 8-10 years in the minors, going home maybe 2-4 days your entire careere. i think that MLB guys have paid there dues and deserve there vacation. when you factor in spring training and regular season, 4 weeks (which is pre-planned), is not that much to ask for. don;t forget either, there work week is 7 days, not 5 like the typical working person. finally, MLB doesn't want there umpires to be burn't out by the all-star break.

![]() OK sorry I had to get it in there...no more I promise. I'd like to see any of you go for 6 months, living out of a suitcase with maybe one day off every two weeks and tell me you don't need to go home.
