Shriking the Strike Zone

Was watching a game the other night and actually heard the PU tell one of the coaches that he was going to shrink the stike zone for his pitcher based on the coach questioning a call.

The coach was not out of line (he politely questioned a malicious contact non-call at the plate while tending to his injured catcher), and the comment from the blue was loud enough for everyone to hear. It sounded classless.

I know sometimes we joke about what we would like to tell coaches, but do you actually verbalize "coach I'm shrinking your zone"?

Not only would I not mention it, it's something I would never do!

Punishing a team because of a problem you're having with their coach is a load of garbage. No decent umpire would subscribe to these kind of tactics.

My zone is my zone is my zone is my zone is my zone.

We can only hope this "umpire" worked his last game that night.

Because of idiot umpires like this one is why we get such a bad rap.

Call the game, ignore the coaches - if the coach wants to play too bad.

Thanks

Any "umpire" who does something as stupid as this clown did, should immediately barred from officiating for cheating.

I once was having a little trouble with a catcher of Scott Pickler's in the Cape and Scott said, run my ****ing catcher, but don't squeeze my ****ing pitcher. That catcher lasted about two more pitches. Moral to the story, if you are that pissed at a coach then run his *** and go back to getting strikes.

We have particular clown here in Central Illinois. He had the second game
of a varsity contest behind the plate. He told the home team catcher that
three of his teamates were a$$holes and that he was opening up strike zone so tell everone they better come to the plate ready to swing the bat.

Should or shouldn't aside...

I find Shrinking, or Opening my zone, a very difficult thing to do.

I have spent a long time tuning my zone. To just change it, and be consistent about how you have changed it, is a tough thing to do. And then, go back to your original zone the next game.

Yikes
