Strike Zone

I have a crazy question. With the batter's box being so large in softball, the batter at the front of the box can be entirely in front of home plate. Where is the strike zone ? Directly in front of the batter, or back over the center of home plate ?

The reason I ask is in U10 rec ball, some of the new pitcher's have alot or arch on their pitches and as it crosses the batter, it is heading down at a pretty good angle. If you call the zone in front of the batter, some pitches will be high, they would be strikes if called directly over home plate.

Not sure it matters in this case, but I play Pony ball.

I can't think of any softball or baseball rule books that say anything besides "over home plate" or its equivalent in defining the strike zone.

PS - it's not just the "Center of home plate" as you wrote. It's the entire 3-dimensional area above the entire plate.

Batter's position in the box does not change the strike zone - which is where the ball crosses the plate ( any part of the plate ). If the batter chooses to position herself where she has to back up to hit a strike, so be it. It is her choice. She does not dictate the strike zone. The plate does.
