I've noticed MLB guys only wear black, cream, or powder blue - with black being seen the most often.

Our state rules say either Navy or powder. It's the same for colt/legion in the summer. Rec league or over 30 you can wear whatever, but navy blue is the default for all leagues.

MLB umpires do not wear cream. That was a failed experiment. The polo blue shirts are the alternate color.

They may have failed for some reason in MLB, but let me assure you that they are very popular out here in hot weather country. They deflect the heat like nothing you've ever known, and they look very sharp, especially with black ball bags. Whenever a mid-day start in the hot sun is scheduled, many umpires are breaking out the Cream.

Good. Break out the Italian ice with that, too, because they make umpires look like frickin' ice cream vendors. The polo blue ones do the trick just as well, and they look much nicer.

The White shirts that are available look much more Good Humor than the Cream shirts, but most people I know think the actual Cream shirts (Cliff Keen from Gerry Davis) look great. And the Blue are actually referred to as MLB Lt. Blue w/Black trim (also Cliff Keen from GD), not to be mistaken for those ugly powder blue with Navy and White trim, or those ugly collegiate ones with Red, White, and Blue Trim.

I love the Lt. Blue too. When I have two games (solo) like last Saturday, I wear the Lt. Blue for the early AM game, and the Cream for the noon game, and I stay as cool as that Italian ice.
