I just purchased 2 polly cotton v-neck shirts, and I can tell a difference in color from the regular polly shirts (which are more black and white). The polly cotton shirts are much more comfortable, but I am worried about the look on the court.

What is your opinion between the polly cotton and all polly? Do I need to get the all polly?

Thanks for your help.

I have both shirts. Yes the all Poly has better color but you can't beat the comfort of the Poly/cotton. I have not heard any comments on the look. I use them mostly for JuCo. ball.......I love 'em. Now they have a new mesh shirt out the I don't think would look too good for school ball, but would be great for summer ball.

I would NOT return them for all poly.

For me it is a personal preference, but I would suggest that the entire crew wear the same shirt. I wear the 100% poly because of the brightness of color and its crisp appearance. I also wear a black sleeveless t-shirt that has Cool-Max built into the shirt. It is a shirt for runners and it wicks moisture away from you skin. I find that to be a very comfortable combination. Look your best in whatever you wear. Court appearance goes a long way. Have a good season. --Gary

I agree that the color is deeper on the all poly, but who can stand the heat? The poly/cotton blend is a little cooler, but the micro-mesh is the coolest of all. I have bought micro-mesh from two different sources, and one seems to have darker black stripes than the other, although I don't like their "Smitty loop" very much. One of the officials associations in this area does not allow micro-mesh, so you have to check with your association as to what you can wear.

Question

Gary,
Where do you find this cool-max shirt? I've been wearing Black Cotton T-shirts with my 100%Poly uniform. I've been needing some more shirts without having luck finding them.

Mark, if you are refering to the PBOA, I don't believe you are correct. I have a micro-mesh and LOVE it. However, I only wear it if my partner has one too. I believe the PBOA's policy it that it must be V-neck and match your partner for JV and up.

I have an InSport CoolMax shirt. The one I prefer does not come in black. I have a white one. I only wear it with the poly shirts. Insport also has some really good (and pricey) compression shorts. Insport has an upcoming website (www.insport.com). Nothing there yet, but says it should be soon.

I also have some black Nike Dri-Fit shirts that are similar in black sleeveless V-neck. I wear it with my poly shirt and my micro-mesh shirts.

Both are much better than the cotton that I used to wear. I've seen coolmax gear in other brands as sporting goods stores. The Coolmax is softer and more like cotton in texture but wicks the sweat away. The Dri-Fit is slicker and a little thinner but works well too.

I sweat a lot so I need all the help I can get. I used to have drenched clothing when I finished a game with a cotton undershirt. Now with the combo of the Dri-Fit and micro-mesh I am much drier. Even with a poly shirt and Dri-Fit, I am much beter.

Here is where I bought my Dri-Fit shirt.

If you mention you are an official, they may provide a discount. They are primarily a local retail business but will ship. I've had them ship to me when I couldn't get over to the store.

Tim,
I got the Cool Max from www.roadrunnersports.com. They come in all colors. I got black. They do not get heavy and hold moisture like the typical cotton t-shirts. A word of caution. Do not use a fabric softener in the dryer with the Cool Max because it will ruin the wicking properties of the shirt. Not sure what I paid for them, but I love them. I also have the mesh shirts, but no other officals I work with on a regular basis has one, so I pack my poly. I am entering my second season with the Leather Luster on my shoes. Other than a few cracks at the toe box area of the shoe the unbelievable shine is still there. However, to redo them the cleaning solvent LL sends you is not strong enough to remove their wax. They recommend paint thinner. I should get through this season without a redo however. See www.leatherluster.com for info if interested.

Have you all tried the McDavid "Intera" support shorts? I bought a pair for football and just order some black for basketball. They are very comfortable and also wick moisture....

Tim,
Go to http://www.roadrunnersports.com or call them to get a catalog. 1-800-551-5558. Reference the RRS BUFT sleeveless CoolMax Jersey Tee. Listed for $19.99. They come in several colors. Have worn them for both football and now basketball since my high school bball season has begun in ernest. The moisture stays on the outside of the shirt and does not get that heavy wet feeling of a pure cotton T.
