Pitcher/Catcher Swap

Can a starting pitcher & a starting catcher switch positions with each other every inning as long as neither leave the game?

Under FED rules, the starting pitcher has to face at least one batter (until that batter's at-bat is complete) before he can be replaced. If the starting pitcher is unable to do so, he may not return as the pitcher for the duration of the game.

Other than that, there's no rule preventing pitcher and catcher from switching positions whenever they'd like (as long as none of the other substitution or re-entry rules are violated, which they aren't in your case).

I'm sure others will be around shortly to give insight into any other rulesets.

FED: Yes

OBR and LL Intermediate and up: A pitcher may return but only once per inning.

LL Majors and below: No - a pitcher once removed as a pitcher cannot return

LL all: Once a pitcher has thrown 41 or more pitches he cannot catch. Once a catcher has caught in 4 innings (one pitch is an inning) he cannot pitch for the rest of the day.

If someone suggests a better subject line for this, I'll change it.

Also yes under NCAA and OBR (the restrictions on a pitcher returning *during* an inning are slightly different between the three codes)
