Overhead obstructions...not all the same
Rule 9.8 i,
Ball hitting a pole to retract a ceiling suspended net system is a Replay. It this a judgement replay like a basketball goal? or any hit is a replay? rule 2.2.2 says cables are playable overhead obstructions. A basketball goal in the vertical position has a special interpretation, but an air-conditioner in the same approximate location has a different interpretation. Or a basketball goal 20 feet in the air is a judgement replay, but a speaker or a flag 16 feet is play-on. You would think these would all be covered in an overhead obstruction section. and would be more consistent in ruling. Last edited by oldsetter; Wed Aug 27, 2014 at 10:23pm. |

So, what is NFHS fascination with basketball goals in the vertical position? Could we not just have a rule covering overhead obstructions below x feet?
Has anyone seen a BB goal in the vertical position 20 feet in the air? |
