Overhead obstructions...not all the same
 

Rule 9.8 i,

Ball hitting a pole to retract a ceiling suspended net system is a Replay.

It this a judgement replay like a basketball goal? or any hit is a replay?

rule 2.2.2 says cables are playable overhead obstructions.

A basketball goal in the vertical position has a special interpretation, but an air-conditioner in the same approximate location has a different interpretation. Or a basketball goal 20 feet in the air is a judgement replay, but a speaker or a flag 16 feet is play-on.



You would think these would all be covered in an overhead obstruction section. and would be more consistent in ruling.

So, what is NFHS fascination with basketball goals in the vertical position? Could we not just have a rule covering overhead obstructions below x feet?
Has anyone seen a BB goal in the vertical position 20 feet in the air?:rolleyes:
