coaching potential Fall players during club vball

I need some advice / clarification. I now have two coaches in our Club Volleyball that also coach in the Fall within AHSAA (Alabama).

From the AHSAA web site:
http://www.ahsaa.com/ahsaa_info/off-season_practice.asp

The last paragraph reads:

Roles of Coaches: Outside the sports season during the school year
(includes the school day), no coach or non-faculty coach from a
school's staff in any sport may hold organized practice or competition
in that sport for students from his/her school or feeder school(s).
The only exceptions are the allowable fall evaluation periods for
spring sports and the spring practice periods for football, basketball
and volleyball.

Does that mean that player ABC who plays club volleyball for Coach XYZ will be ineligible to play for Coach XYZ next Fall during school ball? If player ABC is in 8th grade, would they be ineligible for the JV team at Coach XYZ's school even though Coach XYZ runs the varsity team and not the JV team?

This is not a "between the lines" rules issue that we can help you with.

You need to direct your question the the AHSAA directly.

dvtaylor, as Andy said, please contact the AHSAA directly for the ruling on your question. We, as officials, do not have the necessary knowledge to be able to give you a definitive answer.

Why are so many states concerned about what happens off of school time? I have a cousin who is a baseball coach in Kansas, and he has said they something similar. Things are different here in NY - the NYSPHSAA NEVER gets involved with outside the school year. I will give you an example with softball - In our county in the fall, quite a few high schools field what I guess are the equivalent of club teams to play Sunday morning scrimmage doubleheaders, using ASA (Amateur Softball Association) umpires (almost all of whom are hs umpires). The same basic thing happens in baseball too. A lot of travel teams in the summer are coached by high school coaches, too.

Again, what is the concern here? Favoritism? Working the kiddies too hard? This is the sort of thing that always mystifies me....

ASA/NYSSOBLUE, the reason that HSAA's have the restrictions is supposedly so that the student-athletes have an opportunity to be kids and not have to be responsible to their coach 24/7/365.

Plus, they want to be sure that they feel good about having the power that they do.

In volleyball, there's just way too many different ways of doing things or it's like way too many coaching styles...I sure wouldn't want the Varsity Coach trying to run school volleyball during club volleyball time...Like many others have said, it's outside of school time so don't bring school time to club time. Some people can separate the two, other's can't.
