Profanity at end of game
How would you handle this situation?
This happened to me on the last day of NEQ in Philadelphia. I'm working with a certified R2 for this match. On match point, my partner calls a net fault to end the match. Nobody hears his whistle with all the other noise in the convention center. So I blow my whistle, signal the point, and mimic my partner's net fault signal. The girl who was in the net looks at me and yells, "What the [bleep] are you looking at???!?!?!" As we used to say in the Basketball forum, the bleep started with F, ended in K, and wasn't "firetruck". I've spoken to a few people who have been split on whether I should have red-carded the player. A couple have said (without hesitation) that they would show a card, even though the match is over. But others whom I respect at the highest level didn't like the idea of a card after the match (and the tournament) was over. I understand that view, but I hate the idea of somebody dropping an f-bomb on me with literally no consequence. I did report the incident to the Championship desk, but they can't really do much, either. So red card, or no? |
