How to handle this
First, When I looked over the line-up I missed two mistakes with the player numbers. That was my fault, but it doesn't remove the obligation from the coach to submit a legal and proper lineup.
This was a HS game using NFHS rules. A team today turned in the following line-up card for the second game of a DH. 1. R. Cassibo P #1 2. H. Sissle CF #3 3. C. Mackirder SS #16 4. M. Bates 3B #6 5. Kylee Hamlin C #15 6. P. Coutu 1B #9 7. C. Napaletano RF #8 8. R. Stierley LF #10 9. B. Clark 2b #5 Subs #10 L. Warner #8 R. Webster During the second inning when the 8th batter gets a hit it is determined that she is actually wearing #14, not the # 10 listed on the line-up card. The head coach is issued a warning for having an incorrect number on the lin-up card. No additional penalty is issued. Later the team makes a substitution putting #10 into the lineup for #5. Prior to the start of the 7th inning the coach informs me she needs to remove play #9 from the game due to an injury. She wants to put player #5 into the game for player #9. This is an illegal substitution, as #5 has already been in the game in the #9 position in the batting order. The assistant coach who is holding the scorebook then convineces the head coach to put #5 into the line-up for #10 (reentry) and put #8 (Webster) into the line-up for #9. When writing this substitution down, I noticed that I noe have #8 Webster in the 6th position in the order, and #8 Napelatno in the 7th spot. Obviosuly this is a major issue. How would you handle the situation? |

I'll take a shot.
The reentry is good. #5 re entering for #10.
They have an eligible sub, so get the numbers right, (#8 sub / corrected number), and enter them into the 6th spot for #9. Coach is now restricted to the bench for the remainder of the game.

Ironically, they went 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th defensively, and then came back from down 5-3 to win 6-5 in the bottom of the 7th. The coach was in the dugout, the assistant had to coach third, and she needed to send a player (with a batting helmet on). to serve as the 1b coach. |

So THAT'S what "MD" stands for!
