From the mouths of HS catchers
A buddy of mine sent me an email today regarding his game last night between two not-so-good HS varsity teams. On one high pitch which he called a "ball", the catcher turns around and asks him if he'll go for help. He asked, "Do you think she swung?" The catcher replied, "No. I want to know if it was a strike."

I complimented a catcher for asking whether a throw hitting the discarded bat and deflecting to the backstop was "some kind of rule", like interference.
An alert question for a young player. Even more so when I found out that an UMPIRE had the same occurrence and called a dead ball.
