I'll tee it up for someone.... Fed states that the tip must go sharply & directly to either the glove or the hand and be legally caught... the fact that the ball bounced off of something else is not relevant? 2.25.2

Not as long as that "something else" is the catcher.

The key is that it is sharply & directly to the glove/hand before touching any other part of the catcher or his/her equipment and that the catcher eventually gains possession of the ball.
