Cal-Oregon Caught Foul Ball

What happened on the play in the 2nd inning where the ball was fouled directly off of the catcher's glove, bounced off of her face mask and then was caught. Had just turned game on as the ball was fouled.

Foul tip, strike three, batter out.

I'll tee it up for someone.... Fed states that the tip must go sharply & directly to either the glove or the hand and be legally caught... the fact that the ball bounced off of something else is not relevant? 2.25.2

Not as long as that "something else" is the catcher.

OK... once again, I'll have to unlearn something I thought I knew from playing that other diamond sport and re-learn the rule correctly

Thanks, guys.

The key is that it is sharply & directly to the glove/hand before touching any other part of the catcher or his/her equipment and that the catcher eventually gains possession of the ball.

The ruling would be the same in the other diamond sport.

Apparently you didn't know the rule correctly in the other diamond sport.

In Tempe at the moment Andy......but headed out to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon tomorrow. My internet and cell phone have been iffy at best on this trip. I wish I would have planned ahead and figured out a way to have a beer with you during my brief stay.
