No controversy, Just a story

USSSA Florida State Championship (B)

Some things I read about but I never get to actually see it.... This time it happened:

(long inning)
R1 (on 3rd), R2 (on 2nd) Outs: 1, Count: 3-2
After about a billion foul balls, batter looks at 3rd strike - F2 rolls ball to pitchers plate, defense runs in to 3rd base dugout.

R2 hesitates, takes a few steps toward first base dugout then gets back on second while R1 easily jogs to plate and scores.

R2 probably could have easily gone to 3rd before defense realized what was going on, but I think she was confused, too.

No big deal, but I can't remember if I've ever actually seen a run score on this defensive brain fart....

Sloppy first post (which I corrected) - there was only one out at the time of the called third strike.

Was that a brain fart by the defense or a brain fart by the poster? Did you mean 1 out instead of 2, in which case that would be a brain fart by defense.

You have no idea how many times this SP umpire re-read this story, thinking, "dear god, what am I missing?! I'm screwed if I start calling FP. I'm not seeing the problem here. Oh dear god, what am I missing?! Is it the D3K? No, he didn't mention it hitting the ground. Is there some messed up section I'm not aware of? What am I missing?!?!"

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

Dave
I guess you could say a brain fart by both the defernse and the poster!!

(Orginal post has been fixed to reflect that there was only one out at the time).

Nice to know that we are all on top[ of it this AM!!

Could be. There may be different levels: household, town, county, state, regional, national, world, universe.

We may need a governing board to convene and form a committee to administrate.

I'll pass...

How about two runs scored?

When the dust settled Mauldin had scored 2 runs, Ebony was standing on 2nd, and the Byrnes team was scooting back onto the field trying to find the ball and hold the remaining runners on base. The ruling on a dropped 3rd strike with 2 outs is that the catcher must throw down to 1st (even if the base is occupied).

Hmmm... how about the catcher just picks up the ball and steps on home?

That would have been the smartest move.

Well, the same guy who wrote that also told me that walked batters can't become earned runs.
