catcher head covering
Fed rules but others would be helpful. How do handle/interpret the idea of a catcher wearing a cloth head covering under her helmet while catching? Not a bandanna, just plain cloth. Potentially a violation of 3-2-5 but... . Do you see it as a uniform violation? Do you care? Is it different from allowing prewrap as a headband even though that's not really what it is? And what if it was a skull cap? Is that any better? And while we're at it, what makes a bandanna a bandanna? The design? The color?
These things have come up recently between umps and coaches and I'm straddling the fence. I personally don't care unless it is "bandanna" related (gang colors??), and even then I find it to be something I enforce because I'm told to. I wrote my state interpreter today and I'd like to throw it out to you guys. What do you think? |

Not allowed if it has a knot, is a violation of school uniform colors (3-2-7), is "brightly colored" (bandanna definition), or interferes with the safe wearing of the helmet. Probably to be ignored.

If I cannot see it, how do I know it is there? And no, I'm not going to go looking for it.

No worries... the opposing coach will be sure to point it out!

If the undergarment is exposed, it must meet the requirements of THAT rule (3-2-7). If the undergarment is not exposed, it has no more restrictions than the player's underwear. Before someone points out that the helmet mask being removed does expose the undergarment, I would add that there are times that other undergarments intended to be unexposed also can become exposed at times. That doesn't mean we must regulate that item as part of the uniform. I mean, how many times has a catcher's crouch exposed her ........ Let some other OOO make that call.

I see no cloth. Too what are you referring?
PS - are we ALL going to misspell bandana?

Only point I was trying to make was that their rule set leaves no question as to whether or not the type of head coverings discussed in the OP are allowed. |

Could have been worse. How many ways is there to offer Kippah or kipah or kipa or kippa? Then again it could have been yamaka, yarmlke, yarmulke, yarmulka, yarmelke and maybe even kapel
