I use the west vest gold, shin guards and mask with traditional black padding...id rather sweat and sacrifice a little bulk than sacrifice games from an injury.

Thanks for the compliment, Steve. I do try. Ready for the season?

UnderArmor has a new mask out on the market. It is made by All Star.
The new Diamond mask is now powder coated rather than the old rubber coating that would chip.

3n2 makes an outstanding shoe, both plate and base.

I own Legends Athletic Supply and do not promote my site here, but do umpire and sometimes participate. I know many of you. If you have any questions about equipment, whether you purchase from me or not, please call.

[QUOTE=CecilOne;723874]Do you have or know about this mask
Legends Athletic Supply: DIAMOND LIGHTWEIGHT UMP MASK

I have the older all black one and it has been a great mask. The mask is very comforatble, dissipates sweat quickly and will take a straight on shot with little discomfort to you.

or would you prefer these
Legends Athletic Supply: New Balance Umpire Plate Shoe MU 450
and how do YOU get rid of the white N?

I have the 450's also and they are very comfortable. I have not tried the other shoe, but would definately recomment the 450. I used a liquid dye on the N and it worked out pretty good.

I was pretty sure of getting good help this way and you all just confirmed that. Thanks much.

I'll probably order the Diamond mask, not sure about the shoes yet. I now have Riddell, just fine, and Reebok base shoes had always been good for me, now wearing NB.

Diamond Lite Face Mask (DFM-43) - Protective Gear
Anyone know why it is so cheap?

Is it less protective, less durable, .... ?

Specifically comparef to the one I originally asked about

just letting you know there's a new model option in the mid-cut plate shoes for those 3N2's. but as price goes, you can get them for $85 from epic sports online.

also I've worn the mid-cut spot-bilts, and I am now wearing the new balance 450. blacked out the N's on the 450's, but decided to get the 3N2 reaction mids instead, since I want to shed the weight. the NB450's aren't light enuff for me, but neither were the spot-bilts. I prefer mid-cut plate shoes, so these are perfect. I'm waiting on the 3N2 reaction mid plate shoes to be shipped to me.

if you want the lightest mask, go with the magnesium mask, the champro CM58.
only $65 @ epic sports if you buy 10 or more.

My quick comparison shows one as the bottom line, and the other a top line mask.

Specifically 1.7 lbs vs 17 oz, double bars at the lines of sight versus single bar, and vinyl pads versus breathing pads.

As stated by Steve, the first is the base line model, and it is very heavy. The second is the ultra light weight one. Both will protect fine, and if you don't care about weight, and want to save some dough, then go for the $30 mask.I have used the heavy mask for about 7 years, and just got the ultra light weight one. Can't wait. Feels like it fits nicer and more comfortable than my first mask.
