Nice price on the Fechheimer pants. I assume they come unhemmed? I have always liked to have the rear hemmed a little longer than the front.

I believe so, yeah. Mind you, these are not the western-cut Fechheimer pants, so they're out for ASA Nationals.

Yeah right. How many of you have seen someone sent home, or even made to get different pants at a National? When they first came out with this mandate it was hard nose all the way like there was going to be an inspection of everyones pants prior to them taking the field and no ASA Flech's (western cut) no games. I have still seen a number of umpires at Nationals without western cut pockets. I haven't examined their pants to see if they are non-western cut flech's but I know they weren't ASA pants since they didn't have western cut.

ok I vented a little above, thanks I feel better now, but seriously how many of you have seen pants, or other uniform issues addressed at Nationals?

The first year they were made mandatory, they had major supply issues. The UICs were told in advance that this was the case, and the message that was sent was, "be lenient."

Last year, they didn't have the supply issues, but I don't recall offhand if anyone at the National I was at had gotten "dressed-down" (pun intended).

This year, the UIC where I was at did express a fair amount of concern over the umpires' pants and their lack of compliance. Believe me, it didn't go unnoticed.

Now, will an umpire get sent home if they show up without the proper pants? Maybe, maybe not, but do you really want to take the chance? Did you even see the offenders' evaluations?

For the record, I got 5/5 on appearance. Everything I wore was from the ASA National office with the exception of my compression shorts and cup. Something tells me they aren't too terribly concerned with that. All I need to know is "navy vs. heather greys."

It's in the book that pants must be the western-cut Fechheimers. These are not western-cut Fechheimers.

Sent home? Maybe not.

Not working on Sunday? Maybe not even Saturday? Pretty sure.

Much more likely to happen than to be sent home. At some NCs the top group of umpires are so close in skill level that UIC are looking for any reason, no matter how small, to differentiate umpires.

I much prefer to wear the slash pocket pants, much more comfortable for my body type. But I won't even take them with me on my trips to an ASA National Championship.

I have a picture of the "If" crew on my cube wall here at work form a national after the mandate was made. Only 1 of the 3 umpires have "official" pants on. Plate umpire is wearing pleated pants, 1B has non western cut pockets.

I agree that when in rome. Ok I agree whereever I am I wear ASA pants, that's all I own I have just always ordered them from there so I'm not argueing against wearing the correct pants, all I'm saying is I haven't seen that mandate enforced and was just asking how many others had.

When this was first mandated, there were not enough pants in the inventory, so umpires who could not get them were given a pass. Actually, I'm pretty sure that issue was raised and posted on this board.

I love it when people complain they don't like the western cut because they cannot put anything in their pocket. Then again, if they are too tight to access, maybe you need to buy the next highest size.

Reports from fellow umpires from their Slow Pitch Natl's this year said "Dockers" were the pant of choice. We don't allow Dockers at our state championship tournaments let alone a Nat'l.

Well, here's another thread that kinda took a left turn from where it started, but....

since it started as a "good deal notification" I thought I might mention another.

I am sure many know of www.theofficialschoice.com - Home but I can't remember it being mentioned here.

They have been e-mailing me sale item prices big time here lately. I did buy about 50 shirts for our association a couple months ago at $10.00 each! Shirts are lightweight, color holds great, but are easier prone to "picks" than some, but at that price wow!

They do service several sports, have charcoal pants, but I don't think they have heather or navy.

Just a heads up.

I just complain about them because they look goofy as hell!

What would one keep in front his pocket anyway?

or was that your point?
