Must've been a disturbance in the force.

Doesn't naranja mean orange as in the fruit?

Yeah, I was kind of wondering that myself...

"Pareja" is "partner" or "pair."

confirmed with my wife that it is media naranja not mejor.

Yes, naranja is orange. In panama, though, the expression means your better half. Now it makes a little better sense. See you are the other half and are not as good as your sweet wife.

Very interesting! I'll ask my wife if that expression ran all the way down to Argentina.

Hmm... ¡Que chevere!

Use it with confidence.
The translation for the second sentence is: "Mi mejor naranja" sounds like one has a better spouse and another worse spouse; as if one had more than one wife, you know?

So there you have it. Thanks, Ronald... I learned something new.

Not only is it not crucial, it's not relevant, and it's not point specific. But it likely will live a long and twisted life.
