Crow hop or not?

ASA 10U Rec. ball.

Pitcher has ball of pivot foot on pitcher's plate, close to the right edge, when she starts the pitch. She moves her pivot foot to the center of the pitcher's plate, but now the heel of the pivot foot is on the pitcher's plate, then she pushes off and drags pivot foot properly.

Is this a crow hop?

What would make it an illegal pitch?

If my partner called an IP for that and ruined a strike in 10U rec, I would throw my hat at him and start kicking dirt and maybe, just maybe, crawl on the ground and hand grenade him with my clicker.

A clicker is a device used to irritate other umpires.

Its kinda like yelling dead ball in middle of a baseball game!

As stated in the OP the heel of pivot foot was still on the rubber... im 99.999% sure that even in ASA that's still legal.

It is legal in EVERY brand of softball that I know about for the pitcher to slide the pivot foot across the pitching plate, in any direction, so long as there is still contact when she starts to push and drag. Only if she slides off, and pushes from a spot OTHER than the pitching plate is it illegal.

Actually, I believe it was a gentleman named Ed who coined the term.

He was a slowpitch umpire who used to have some great stories about the antics of the players in the AA (alleged adult) leagues he called.

I think what some are looking for in this case is an IP call for the pitcher lifting her heel off the PP while in the act of delivering the pitch prior to the release of the ball.

IMO, that is not an IP.
