What are your goals for your umpiring career?

Ok the post about ASA rules and the twist I has taken got me thinking. What are your goals for your umpiring career? I know there are various levels of umpires here from brand new to VERY experienced so this could be a wide range of answers, but I think it is intersting to know what people on here are striving to achieve out of their career.

I know personally I have obtained a lot of my goals, so I keep setting higher ones to work for.

Currently mine are to
1) Umpire a USA/ASA Gold tournament
2) Umpire a FED state finals
Stretch goal:
Qualify for ASA Elite status

I think at this stage of my career its almost time to retire.

Well, I'm finishing up my 16th year, which means I've umpired a shade over half my life (I'm 31). I've already called in one National, called some State tourneys, and called a few thousand games in my lifetime. Had my ups, had plenty of downs, but I still enjoy doing it.

I think I have only two goals:

1 - Keep doing my job as best I can, and take things one game, one call at a time.
2 - Eventually, do this long enough and keep learning my job well enough that I might train the next round of rookies.

Beyond that, that's it. If I get more "big games," wonderful! If not, no biggie. I've done my service, and will continue to do my service as long as I can.

My goal is to be the very best umpire that I can be.

I will work to attain that goal by attending clinics, studying the rules, and asking for feedback from other umpires I respect. Whatever level that gets me to will be great.

I learned a while back not to set goals of working a national tournament or a state final HS game or NCAA regionals. I would beat myself up when those assignments didn't come and I saw other officials who I did not have a high opinion of in those games.

I also choose not to play some of the games that may be necessary to get those assignments. I choose to let my work on the field speak for me. If that's good enough...so be it.

I strive to always keep learning and trying to be a better umpire.
